Barney Flores is a Lvl IV coach and has been coaching boxing for over 35 years. During this time, he has worked as the State Silver Gloves Director, Assistant Golden Gloves Director, 1994 World Cup coach, 1998 Ahmet Cup coach, and continues to work with youth to keep them in school, out of gangs, and off of drugs.
In 2001, a City building in McKinney was named after Barney (the Barney and Me Boxing Gym) because of Barney's unselfish dedication to the youth in McKinney. Barney coaches youth for free and goes to schools to talk to the youth about how boxing has changed his life. Barney has been the USA Boxing LBC President for more than 10 years. He has been a coach for the USA Boxing team in USA vs. Mexico (4 times), USA vs. England, USA vs. Ireland, USA vs. Canada, numerous all-comers camps, and has had the pleasure of working with several past Olympian boxers, including training a '92 alternate, Edward Escobedo!
In May 09, Barney was selected to travel and train in Yerevan, Armenia. Coach Flores was one of the Camp Coaches in Yervevan. Barney also trains and promotes both Amateur Boxers AND Professional Boxers (including the 2004 Super Heavyweight Ringside World Champion, Rainey Rogers)!
